Hopefully, you have seen that Joe Billingham, and I have organised a one-day event in Birmingham called FabFest. It will be on the 3rd of October at Millenium Point in Birmingham and will feature a full day of exciting talks on Fabric and AI. It’s looking to be a great day and tickets are going fast so sign up here if you haven’t already.

Why did we want to organise FabFest?

Before Joe and I produced the idea to go ahead and organise FabFest we were set to talk at Data Relay for the week of the 30th of September, which included a stop in Birmingham on the 3rd of October. Unfortunately, Data Relay could no longer go ahead. It was at this point that we realised that Data Relay is one of the big in-person events for the Midlands data community, and so we decided to try and fill that hole for this year and give something back to our local data community. Luckily when we floated the idea to our employer Purple Frog Systems, they were fully on board to provide sponsorship for the event, as they agreed with the vision and like us are enthusiastic about the data community in the midlands!

Why concentrate on Microsoft Fabric and AI?

As we only wanted to make this a day session, we decided to pick topics that we thought would have the most impact in regard to usefulness for delegates, as well as providing the up-to-date viewpoint of the data landscape as it stands. Hence, we ended up deciding to create an agenda with a blend of Microsoft Fabric and AI (via Microsoft services) talks for the day for the following reasons.

Microsoft Fabric

We felt Fabric was an essential topic to discuss as it represents a significant advancement in data management and analytics. With it, businesses can harness the power to transform their data into smart, scalable solutions and enable organisations to optimise their data workflows, improve decision-making processes, and enhance overall efficiency. We hope through FabFest we can inform and upskill attendees on the points made above about Microsoft Fabric.

AI

AI has become an ambiguous buzz term, and that giving clarification on what AI is, and that there are business applications that any business can be putting in place to increase efficiencies and automate processes. Doing all this through the Microsoft tech stack was a conscious decision because Microsoft has made major developments in making Artificial Intelligence much more accessible and powerful over the last year! The key takeaway regarding AI for us is that it is not just ChatGPT and autonomously driving Tesla’s and it is not something that just the big companies are doing. You can do it too.
