Project number 3 at Principality

Purple Frog Systems welcome the opportunity to undertake a third project for Principality Building Society. At Purple Frog Systems we pride ourselves on building long term relationships with our clients, and Principality are no exception. Having designed and built a business intelligence infrastructure with a focus on finance, treasury and FSA regulatory requirements, we'll now be concentrating on internal analytics and sales tracking.

Principality are a great client to work with; the diversity of their business combined with their willingness to adopt the latest available technology results in interesting, challenging and rewarding projects, we're sure this new project will be no different.

New Purple Frog website goes live

Today marks the launch of the new and improved Purple Frog Systems website. We've upgraded both the website and blog backend systems to provide more content flexibility and to allow for further growth and bandwidth capacity. We hope you like the new look.

Our services section is not only intended to explain what we do as a company, but also as a business intelligence reference guide. If you're learning about business intelligence and want to know what it is and how it all works, please have a look. if there's anything that you think needs enhancing or new content adding then please let us know. We're always looking to expand it further, and now the new website platform will provide a greater ability to do it.

The Frog-Blog is a way of feeding back into the SQL Server Business Intelligence community. All of us at Purple Frog Systems have benefited greatly over the years from people putting the time and effort into blogs and user groups, and feel that they are a vital part of the community, which we’re proud to be a part of. If you have a topic or problem that you'd like us to address on the blog, feel free to get in touch using the contact us page.

Midlands SQL Server User Group

Purple Frog, in association with www.SQLServerFAQ.com, have launched the Midlands SQL Server User Group.

The SQL Server user group community is growing at a pace, with new user groups being set up across the UK. It provides an ideal way for database professionals to keep up to date with the latest tools and techniques, as well as network with peers over pizza and a beer or three. It's suitable for all, from those that are just SQL-curious through to the seasoned DBA and Business Intelligence guru.

The user group network has a vast array of expert members to draw speakers from, and can always be relied upon to educate, inform and of course enter tain.

Alex Whittles, lead consultant at Purple Frog, has presented numerous Business Intelligence sessions at user groups before, and identified the lack of any user group activity in the Midlands. Being based in Telford, Purple Frog is ideally located to head up the creation of the new group which will be based in Birmingham.

Our first event will be held on Thursday 10th March 2011 after work at The Old Joint Stock Theatre pub in Birmingham City centre. Map of the venue.

We're planning to put on one DBA focused session and one BI session, so there should be something for everyone.

It'll be free to attend, and we'll put on some food as well.

Keep an eye on Purple Frog News, SQLServerFAQ or @SQLMidlands for further details.

SQLBits Session Summary

This weekend saw the eighth SQLBits conference take place in Brighton. Alex Whittles from Purple Frog presented two technical sessions at the conference, one on using DMVs and spatial data to visualise star schemas and the BUS matrix to automate OLAP cube documentation, and one for a bit of fun, drawing pictures using SQL Server spatial queries.

The sessions were recorded so should be available to watch in the near future, in the meantime here's a quick two minute summary of each session.

We are absolutely thrilled that we've been asked to speak at the next SQLBits conference, in Liverpool on 1st October 2011.
